Your clients normally open the portal on the ClientSynq site. With a custom domain they use an address you own, such as portal.yourcompany.com, and the emails they get link there too.

Before you start
- A custom domain is part of the Enterprise plan.
- To open Brand Settings you need the Manage Branding permission. To register, check or remove the hostname you must be the owner, have the Administrator role, or have a role with Edit Settings (Roles page, Settings group).
- You need access to your domain's DNS settings, or someone who can add records for you.
- Use a subdomain, such as
portal.yourcompany.com. A bare domain (yourcompany.com) is not accepted, so your main website keeps working.
Register the hostname
- Open Settings (under your name, bottom left of the sidebar), then Brand.
- Scroll to Custom Domain.
- In Hostname, enter the address, for example
portal.yourcompany.com. - Click Register hostname.
The hostname shows Waiting for DNS and a table of DNS records appears.
Add the DNS records
The table lists each record's Type, Name (host), Value (points to) and Status. Add each one at your DNS provider exactly as shown. You will see:
| Record | What it is for |
|---|---|
| CNAME for your hostname | Serves the portal on your domain. The security certificate is issued automatically once it resolves. |
| TXT ownership check (only if shown) | A one-time ownership check. Remove it after the domain shows as verified. |
CNAME for clerk. followed by your hostname |
Lets sign-in work on your domain. |
Check and go live
- After adding the records, click Check now. While the page stays open it also re-checks every 30 seconds.
- Each record shows Found when it resolves. When everything is in place, the hostname shows Active with the date.
You do not need to keep the page open. ClientSynq also re-checks every domain that is not active yet once an hour, so a domain turns Active on its own after your DNS records publish. Click Check now when you want an answer sooner.
A newly active hostname reaches visitors within 60 seconds. If something is wrong, the status shows Error with a message under the table.
How clients use it
- Opening your hostname takes clients to their client portal dashboard.
- Client invitations, payment receipts and File Exchange emails link to your hostname once it is active.
- To sign in, clients are sent to the ClientSynq sign-in page, shown with your branding, and returned to your hostname afterwards.
- Clients pay on your hostname too. The payment form opens there, so clients do not leave your domain to pay.
- These pages are served on your hostname: the client portal, the payment form, invitation links and acceptance, the invalid-invitation page, Portal terms, terms, privacy, support, help and the updated-terms consent page. Any other address on your hostname, such as a staff page, redirects to the main ClientSynq site.
Your own team keeps using the main ClientSynq site. Team invitations always link there.
Good to know
- Until the hostname is Active, visiting it shows "Not found".
- A hostname can belong to only one organization.
- To change the hostname, enter the new one and click Register hostname. The old one is removed. To register the same hostname again, the button reads Re-register.
- Remove takes the hostname off after you confirm. The portal goes back to the ClientSynq address.
- To also send email from your own address, see Send email from your own domain.
